Why the box matters
The shutter box can be the weakest point. Even with good frames and glass, an old or poorly insulated box can let in air, heat, cold and noise.
When to improve it
Review it when there are draughts, outside noise, damaged covers or thermal losses. Keeping a poor box can limit the upgrade.
Usual options
The box can be replaced, insulated, fitted with better covers, guides or motorisation depending on the existing opening.
Noise and shutters
For acoustic comfort, glass is not enough. The box, guides and joints must be sealed correctly.
What to request in the quote
Ask whether the box is replaced or kept, how it is insulated, what slat is used, whether motorisation is included and how joints are sealed.
